A Special Investigation Team (SIT) started investigation into the clash between a Sikh family and four college students that occurred outside a restaurant in the town on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Police have shunted out the SHO of the Civil Lines police station Sandeep Kumar after the Shiromani Akali Dal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) raised the issue with the police.

DSP Jitender Singh, who is heading the 11-member SIT, said that no further action has been taken so far.

“Investigation is under way and further action will be taken after the completion of inquiry. So far, nobody has been arrested,” he said and added that two FIRs have been registered against both the parties.

Former INLD MLA from Tohana Nishan Singh visited the Sikh family and met the injured persons on Sunday.

The incident had escalated after the police registered an FIR on the charge of attempt to murder (Section 307 of the IPC) against the Sikh family after two college youths were attacked with a kirpan by Tanpreet Singh.

The SAD and SGPC members on Saturday had demanded withdrawal of Section 307 and transfer of the SHO while demanding a fair inquiry into the incident.

The District Bar Association, on the other hand, came to the support of the college students as one of the four youths, Aakash, is the son of Bar Association member Virender Malik. Aakash and his friend Vikas suffered stab injuries in the incident. The Bar Association will hold a meeting on Monday to discuss the issue.
