Goat rearing units given to BPL families

UNA: Rural development and Animal Husbandry Minister Virender Kanwar on Monday distributed 12 units of goats to 12 families to enhance their livelihood under the BPL goat rearing scheme.

Rural development and Animal Husbandry Minister Virender Kanwar on Monday distributed 12 units of goats to 12 families to enhance their livelihood under the BPL goat rearing scheme. Lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur was also present.

Each farmer was given a unit of two female and one male goat. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said a provision of 60 per cent grant was available under the scheme. He said 1,153 units had been distributed to farmers in the state so far.

Kanwar said the MGNREGA scheme would be utilised for the creation of water bodies to harvest rainwater. He said the activity would not only give employment to the rural folk but also recharge the groundwater aquifer. He said the minimum daily wages under the MGNREGA had been enhanced from 100 days to 120 days a year.
