Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) from 2009 to 2013, Maj Gen CM Sharma (retd), was found dead in his house in Jakhu on Friday, with a bullet injury in the head. The police found the body, a licensed revolver and a suicide note from the basement of the house, Superintendent of Police Omawati Jamwal said.

Maj Gen Sharma, 67, is survived by his wife and two sons. A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital here. “A hole in the head with entry and exit points was clearly visible. No other injury mark was found,” sources said.

“He was suffering from insomnia for some time,” said police sources. His acquaintances said they had seen him walking at The Mall a few days ago.

Commissioned in 1972, Gen Sharma, an expert on information warfare and disaster management, commanded an artillery regiment in Ladakh and a brigade in Jammu and Kashmir. — TNS
