IPH minister urged to restore water supply in Chamba

CHAMBA: The Chamba Welfare Association, a NGO, has urged the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Minister to restore drinking water supply in the town and adjoining areas.

The Chamba Welfare Association, a NGO, has urged the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Minister to restore drinking water supply in the town and adjoining areas. The water supply was hit heavy snowfall and rain in the district for the past some days.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, association president RK Mahajan and general secretary SK Kashmiri said that a resolution in this regard had been passed and sent to the IPH Minister apprising him about the prevailing situation.

The association said that in the absence of water, residents were facing problems as the entire town was stinking. They invited the Minister to Chamba and see the things for himself for the wellbeing of the people.

Expressing resentment over the blockade of roads due to landslides and snowfall in different areas of the district, the association pointed out that the Chamba-Pathankot national highway was the only lifeline of Chamba and the read frequently remained blocked.

Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena, however, maintained that all-out efforts were being made to restore the drinking water supply in the town and other areas.

Meanwhile, Dalhousie Circle PWD Superintending Engineer said that 38 roads were still blocked. He said that 54 JCBs, 7 dozers and 8 tippers had been deployed with workers to clear snow and debris from the roads.
