Five injured in protests over braid-chopping

ANANTNAG: Five persons were injured today after the Army opened fire on civilians protesting against an alleged braid-chopping incident at Wulerhama village in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district.

Anantnag, October 18

Five persons were injured today after the Army opened fire on civilians protesting against an alleged braid-chopping incident at Wulerhama village in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district.

The incident took place at 7:30 am after a woman raised hue and cry, claiming that some unidentified person had chopped her braid.

Locals alleged that the suspected braid-chopper fled from the spot and boarded an Army vehicle. This infuriated the protesters and clashes erupted.

The police acknowledged that the Army opened fire but denied that the Army was involved in any braid-chopping incident.

The injured, who were taken to Anantnag district hospital, were out of danger.
