Phagwara, January 16

Lohri was celebrated at Pyramid College of Business and Technology. The festival, it is believed, is held to commemorate the passing of winter solstice.

The belief is that Lohri represents the longest night before winter solstice as it was originally celebrated on the night before winter solstice followed by the shortest day of the year.

But Pyramid College staff celebrated Lohri in a different style by giving gifts to the newborn female children and delivered a message to society to save the girl child. To promote the cause of saving the girl child, scholarship was also announced for the single girl child.

The college staff visited the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, and distributed gifts among the newborn.

The celebrations continued by lighting a bonfire on the college campus in the presence of Prof Jatinder Singh Bedi, president and Bhavnoor Singh Bedi, vice-president of the college besides Dr Rachit Garg, Director of Pyramid College with Bhupinder Singh, head of the administration and Ajay, in charge of the NSS wing of the college.
