Jalandhar, December 8

A day after Kartarpur resident Dimple Kartarpuria was gunned down by two assailants, with their faces covered, the Jalandhar police lodged an FIR against unidentified persons.

The FIR has been lodged under Sections 302 and 120 of the IPC and 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

While Dimple himself had several cases lodged against him, sources said during preliminary investigations it has emerged that it was a planned murder carried out by someone with personal enmity with the deceased. The police today also investigated several residents and shopkeepers of the area where the victim’s shop was situated in Kartarpur. However, no one has been rounded up in the case yet.

Police sources said so far, at least four to five FIRs had also been registered against Dimple.

While all key police officials of the city reached the police station late last night after the murder, further investigations in the case are on.

Dimple was shot three times yesterday by armed men who came on a motorcycle while he was at his shop, where he used to make display and flex boards. The shop had been taken on rent by him. A CCTV footage going viral after the incident shows a man with a handkerchief tied across his face, firing several shots at Dimple, who collapses on a chair at the shop as another associate working in the shop hides behind a desk. This is the second gruesome incident of violence in the district within the past one week. The first was the attack on a businessman, Shashi Sharma, in which the city police caught another accused today.

Last evening, a gun also went off at the Maqsudan police station after a man fired shots in anger.

Meanwhile, DSP, Kartarpur, Digvijay Kapil, said: “We are exploring things from all angles. Inquiries are also being made from acquaintances. The accused have not been arrested so far but we expect a headway soon.”
