Chandigarh: Rejecting Sukhpal Singh Khaira's statement accusing him of toeing the Centre's line, CM Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday charged the leader of the Punjabi Ekta Party (PEP) of resorting to atrocious falsehoods and gimmickry in a bid to remain in the headlines ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Subsidy to boost industry on cards

Chandigarh: Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora on Sunday said the state government would give subsidy to industrial units so as to enable the industrial sector in the state to act as propeller of the economic growth. The move would result in generating more employment avenues for the youth. Divulging this here today, the minister said the intended move would strengthen the industrial infrastructure, for which the government had released Rs 2 crore. TNS

One booked for illegal mining

Fazilka: The police have booked a local resident for his alleged involvement in illegal sand mining. He has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukhi. Though he is yet to be arrested, the police have impounded a sand-laden tractor-trailer owned by him from Paliwala village. Sukhwinder has been booked under Section 379 of the Mining And Mineral Act. — TNS

Passport centre in Ropar next month

Ropar: Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra will inaugurate a passport service centre on February 9 at the Ropar main post office. After the centre opens, the residents of Ropar and adjoining areas of Garhshankar and Balachaur will not have to go to Chandigarh for the purpose. TNS

Four booked for harassing girl

Abohar: The police have booked four persons under Sections 354-D, 506, 509 and 120-B of the IPC for abusing and threatening a girl of Seed Farm colony located on the outskirts of the town. Mohan Lal and Avtar Singh Bittu of Seed Farm, and Manjit Singh and Gurjit Singh Goga of Dhani Kadaka Singh have been named in the FIR.  OC
