Four cops injured in mob attack at Moga village

MOGA: Four policemen, including the in charge of a police post, were injured when they went to Daulewala Mayar village in Moga district to arrest two proclaimed offenders involved in drug smuggling.

Four policemen, including the in charge of a police post, were injured when they went to Daulewala Mayar village in Moga district to arrest two proclaimed offenders involved in drug smuggling. The incident took place on Thursday night.

The injured policemen were identified as ASI Beant Singh Bhatti, in charge of the Daulewala police post, his colleague ASI Balkar Singh, Head Constable Charanjit Singh and Constable Jaskaran Singh. They were discharged from the hospital on Friday.

The policemen went to the village, known for smuggling of drugs, to arrest two proclaimed offenders Kuldeep Singh Bhola and Raj Kumar Raju, who were wanted in a case of attacking a police party on December 30, 2016.

Bhola and Raju were taken into custody from a house but suddenly, a mob emerged at the spot and attacked the police party with stones and sticks. During the attack, Bhola and Raju managed to flee from the spot. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Bhola, Raju, their family members, relatives and 15 to 20 unknown persons and have started an investigation. — TNS
