Intrusion bid foiled, 1 shot dead

AMRITSAR: A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by BSF troops near Kakkar Rania outpost here last night. He was identified as Bashrat Ali of Miayani Maqboolpura in Sheikhupura district of Pakistan.

Amritsar, January 13

A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by BSF troops near Kakkar Rania outpost here last night. He was identified as Bashrat Ali of Miayani Maqboolpura in Sheikhupura district of Pakistan.

Paramjit Singh, Company Commander, stated that the BSF jawans noted suspicious movement near the barbed fence and spotted the intruder, who was shot dead. The BSF troops seized a mobile phone with three Pakistani SIM cards, foreign currency and identity card of the deceased during search. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination. A case has been registered.— TNS

Alert in Gurdaspur’s Kalanaur

Gurdaspur: Security has been stepped up in villages along the border in Kalanaur sub-division of the district following intelligence inputs on possible infiltration attempt from across the border.  Nearly a dozen villages located near the border were extensively searched by the police on Saturday. Inspector General of Police (Border) SPS Parmar and DIG Arun Kumar Mittal held a meeting with SSPs Vivek Sheel Soni (Pathankot), Opinderjit Singh Ghuman (Batala) and Harcharan Singh Bhullar (Gurdaspur) here. While Gurdaspur SSP monitored the search operations at Kalanaur, Pathankot SSP supervised the search at Bamial and Batala SSP at Dera Baba Nanak. The police officials claimed the search operation was routine in nature. “It is a routine search operation conducted ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. We are trying to boost the morale of residents living near the border by personally reaching out to them,” said IG Parmar. TNS
