Patiala, June 23

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has met the record demand of electricity in the state.

PSPCL chief managing director Baldev Singh Sran said the corporation supplied 2,638 lakh units of electricity on Saturday to all consumers, highest during the ongoing paddy season and did not impose cuts anywhere.

He said since June 13, the PSPCL was providing daily eight-hour power for agriculture along with 24-hour supply to all other consumers.

The PSPCL has made arrangements to meet the demand of 14,000 MW of power while the anticipated demand is likely to be 13,500 MW. “Arrangements have been made for 1,000 MW electricity from our own hydro units, 1,760 MW from own thermal units, 4,580 MW from the Central sector, including Bhakra Beas Management Board, 3370 MW from independent power producer s, 800 MW from New and Renewable Sources of Energy along with banking arrangements of up to 2,570 MW for the paddy season,” Sran added. Heavy storms in mid-June severely damaged the distribution infrastructure of the PSPCL in some areas. “About 7,100 poles and 1,300 transformers were uprooted or fell down due to heavy windstorms. We managed to erect most of the fallen poles and transformers within a short time and ensured the committed power supply,” he said. — TNS
