Three persons killed in Ludhiana road accidents

LUDHIANA: Three persons were killed in three separate road accidents in the city during the past 24 hours.

Ludhiana, January 14

Three persons were killed in three separate road accidents in the city during the past 24 hours. The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Rai (24) of Dhandari Khurd, Harmit Singh (26) of Harkishan Nagar in Shimlapuri and Chand Babu (24) of Vedan village in Hardoi district of Bihar.

In the first incident, Dinesh Rai of Dhandari Khurd was killed when he was hit by an unknown vehicle near Sahnewal on GT Road here past night. The police have registered a case against unidentified driver on the statement of victim’s cousin at the Sahnewal police station.

In his complaint to the police, Nimesh Kumar stated that he along with Dinesh has come to Dhandari Kalan for some important work last night. According to Nimesh, when they were returning home after work, Dinesh was hit by an unknown vehicle near OBC bank branch on GT Road and he died on the spot. Nimesh told the police that he could not spot the vehicle, which hit Dinesh as it was too dark.

In the second mishap, Harmit Singh of Harkishan Nagar in Shimlapuri was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle near Satsangh Bhawan on Sangowal Road in the late night yesterday. The police have registered a case of negligent driving against unidentified driver in this regard. In his complaint to the police, victim’s father Surinder Singh stated that his son Harmit had gone for work in the morning, but did not return.

“Late in the night, my brother-in-law called me and informed that Harmit was hit by some unknown vehicle on Sangowal Road. When I reached the spot, I found my son dead,” stated Surinder Singh. Investigating Officer, Constable Harnek Singh, said the police was searching for the vehicle involved in the accident.

In the third accident, a migrant labourer was killed after being hit by a tipper near Manghar village. The deceased was identified as Chand Babu (24). The police have registered a case of negligent driving against tipper driver Jaspal Singh in this regard. However, the tipper driver is absconding.

The accident took place when Chand Babu had come for purchasing some grocery from the market. According to sources, when the victim was trying to cross the road, he was hit by a tipper and died on the spot. The tipper driver fled leaving behind his vehicle at the accident site. Investigating Officer, Constable Dilbag Rai, said the police was searching for the driver.
