Two brothers suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at a rubber factory in Kuranwala village near here today.
The victims have been identified as Amit (24) and his brother Imran (26), who used to work as labourers in the factory. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, factory officials believe that the fire broke out due to a short-circuit in the production unit.
According to fire officials, the fire broke out in the unit of Shaktiman Rub Rolls Private Limited at Kuranwala village around 10.20 am. The fire spread rapidly within minutes and it engulfed a major portion of the factory. Inflammable goods, including plastic, rubber items and other equipment stocked in the factory, were gutted in the fire, said sources.
The victims, who suffered burn injuries, were working in the unit at the time of the incident. They were immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, from where they were referred to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh.
The Fire Department claimed to have received information at 10.20 am. A fire engine was rushed to the spot along with a team of firemen to extinguish the flames. After a struggle of nearly an hour and a half, the firemen were able to control the blaze.
