Chandigarh, February 14
A set of seven heritage furniture from the City Beautiful will be put up for auction in France on March 5.
The items likely to go under hammer include a study table, a pair of armchairs, teak desk and a suite of four armchairs, all designed by Pierre Jeanneret and an aluminum shutter. The items are likely to fetch more than Rs 60 lakh.
In a letter to Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator, Ajay Jagga, member, Heritage Protection Cell, Chandigarh, stated, “Indian Embassy in France may be asked to step in and attempt to stall the auction of Chandigarh heritage items and the matter be probed as to how these banned items have gone beyond the territory of India.” — TNS
