Chandigarh, August 18

The Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak was awarded to 16 personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) for services rendered by them during the internal security duties in various parts of the country during a function held at the BSF campus in Mohali today.

Of the 16 medals, 10 have been awarded for service by BSF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir and the other six for services in the north-east. The medal was instituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs in July 2018 and is awarded to the force personnel who have served for two continuous years in operational duties in Jammu and Kashmir, left wing extremism affected states and the north-east.

The medals were presented by Surendra Panwar, Special Director General, Western Command, BSF. Congratulating the recipients, he exhorted them to strive for professional excellence and earn more laurels in future.

In addition to its primary role of guarding the international border with Pakistan and Bangladesh, the BSF has also been requisitioned by state governments for the maintenance of law and order and counter-insurgency operations. — TNS
