The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge today sentenced a 22-year-old youth to 10 years of imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl in 2018.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh on the convict, Dharam Kumar. The youth, who hails from Bihar, was working in Chandigarh.
According to the prosecution, the convict was booked on September 28, 2018, on the complaint of the victim’s father. He had reported that his daughter went missing from their house when he, along with his wife, was away during the day.
In the complaint, the parents stated that their daughter might have been kidnapped by Dharam Kumar residing in the area.
Later, the police arrested the convict and recovered the minor from his custody in Bihar on October 6, 2018. The medical examination confirmed that the girl was raped. A case under Sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her marriage, etc) and 376 (2) of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act was registered against Dharam Kumar.
