Panchkula, May 10

Four companies of the Kerala Special Armed Police have arrived to assist the Panchkula police to maintain law and order and conduct smooth polling on May 12 in the two assembly segments of the district.

The police said police personnel from Kerala would be deployed at 83 sensitive polling booths in the district. Four police personnel would be deployed at each hypersensitive polling booth.

There are about 410 polling booths in the district, which has been divided into two zones, keeping in view the security of the voters.

Each zone would be headed a deputy superintendent of police. The task of holding peaceful elections in the district will be with 900 police personnel.

DCP Kamal Deep Goyal said a joint flag march in the district was led by the detective staff in-charge, Mahender Singh, Indian Reserve Battalion and Kerala Special Armed Police to instill a sense of safety and security among the common people.

He said the flag march started from Ramgarh village and after passing through Sectors 28, 26 and 25 markets, Devi Nagar, Maheshpur, Sector 21, Sector 20 and Kundi village, it culminated at Ashiana flats in Sector 20.

Goyal said if anyone found any objectionable item or had suspicion on any person, they should immediately inform the police control room.

He said the police were also keeping a close eye on the persons carrying illicit liquor, weapons or black money.

Goyal added that people should not give ear to rumours. He said in view of the polling for the Ambala Lok Sabha constituency, Section 144 of the IPC has been imposed to maintain law and order in the district.
