New Delhi, February 8

Environment Minister Imran Hussain today appealed to the NGOs and resident welfare associations (RWAs) in the national capital to adopt parks and gardens.

Hussain requested them to select which require urgent maintenance and greening and approach the Delhi Parks and Garden Society (DPGS) through the respective RWAs for obtaining financial assistance for maintenance of parks and setting up of sewage treatment plants.

During the interactive session, the minister praised the role of NGOs for actively participating in conserving, protecting and managing environment in the city. The meeting aimed at promoting and adopting parks and gardens in the city, was attended by NGOs and more than 20 associations.

The city has more than 18,000 parks and gardens owned by various land owning agencies. In order to boost the maintenance of parks and gardens and their beautification, the DPGS provides funds as financial assistance to RWAs and other registered societies. — TNS
