Rohtak/Karnal, January 27
Farmers under the aegis of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) held tractor parades across the state on Republic Day on Friday to register their protest against the Central government for allegedly not fulfilling assurances on legal guarantee of purchase of produce on the MSP, and seeking withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment bill and justice for Lakhimpur Kheri victims.
In Karnal, a tractor parade commenced from Ramlila ground and concluded outside the Mini Secretariat. On January 26, 2021, thousands of farmers had allegedly clashed with the police in Delhi during a tractor march.
Deepening agrarian crisis

“On the 75th anniversary of Republic Day, we organised a tractor parade to protest against the non-fulfillment of promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following which farmers ended their year-long protests on Delhi borders against three farm laws,” said Rattan Mann, the state president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU).
He said the parade was peaceful. “The Union government has not yet enacted a law ensuring the implementation of the MSP for crops, and the cases related to farmers’ protests have not been withdrawn. Compensation for damaged crops has not been provided, and no solution has been given to bills related to power and stubble burning,” he said.
Bhupendra Singh Ladi, another farmer leader said farmers were being forced to use nano urea spray that was unacceptable to them.
In Rohtak, the SKM leaders accused the BJP government of misleading the people by exploiting religious sentiments in order to distract them from livelihood issues.
“The unprecedented success of tractor parades across the state is indicative of the deepening agrarian crisis as a result of the pro-corporate policies of the state and Central governments. A nationwide strike will be observed on February 16 by trade unions supported by Gramin Bharat Bandh to press for the basic issues of farmers and workers,” said Inderjit Singh, a senior SKM leader.
