MANY streetlights on the sealed road from Chotta Shimla to Marina Hotel are non-functional, causing inconvenience to the people passing through this stretch at night. Some other parts of the town also have defective streetlights. Not only does this cause inconvenience to pedestrians, it could also put their safety at risk. The MC authorities must look into the matter and repair streetlights across the town as soon as possible.

Overcrowded buses a trouble to commuters
THE local buses — both private and government-operated — in the town are very crowded most of the time, causing great inconvenience to office-goers and students. Almost without exception, bus conductors keep on urging the passengers to board the buses, despite them being packed. This leads to great harassment to those who must travel by these buses daily. The overcrowding could also lead to accidents. The authorities concerned should take necessary action against this practice. Asha, Shimla
Open smoking at Mall road
DESPITE smoking in the open being banned in Shimla, many tourists, and even locals, can often be seen smoking at prominent locations of the town, such as the Mall and the Ridge. Sometimes, the smokers go to roads adjoining the Mall road to smoke. The authorities should keep an eye on such offenders and immediately fine them.
