The decisions to give free water in rural areas, free electricity up to 125 units and 50 per cent discount to women travelling by HRTC buses were not taken under pressure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), said state BJP president Suresh Kashyap here today.

AAP accused Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur of following the Delhi model of governance after he announced various concessions at the Himachal Day function yesterday.

“The BJP government has worked for the welfare of all sections of society in the past four and a half years. The state is power surplus and therefore it has been decided to provide electricity up to 125 units free of cost,” he said while addressing mediapersons.

Asked whether the BJP would contest the upcoming Shimla Municipal Corporation elections on the party symbol, he said that the government would take the call on the issue.

The BJP was well prepared to fight the elections on the party symbol or without it, he added. However, party insiders said that most of the BJP leaders want the MC elections to be fought on the party symbol.
