Jalandhar, February 5
Punjab Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh today said the state government has released funds worth Rs 10 crore for the construction of roads in Jalandhar city.
Chairing a review meeting regarding development projects of the city, the Minister directed officials of the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar and the District Administration to ensure timely construction of work on all roads.
The Minister said the government was committed to ensuring all-round development of the state and there was no paucity of funds to carry out this mammoth task.
He directed the officials to ensure proper monitoring of all works as any kind of compromise with the quality of roads and other projects would be highly unwarranted. He also directed the officials to start construction work of rejuvenation of Dr BR Ambedkar Park. He mentioned that tenders had already been floated in this regard and the rejuvenation of the park would be done at an outlay of Rs 1 crore.
The Minister stated that the Local Bodies Department was taking some path-breaking initiatives to provide better services to citizens wherein focus was being laid to fill vacant posts in the municipal authorities. He said as many as 375 vacant posts were being filled in the departments which would further accelerate the pace of development works. Likewise, recruitment procedure of about 400 firemen was also underway to further strengthen the fire services in the cities.
