The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate today busted an inter-district narcotics smuggling gang by arresting two of its members with three pistols, a car and Rs 1.05 lakh drug money. The suspects were identified as Sunny Wehmi and Rahul.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said they got a tip-off that a drug peddling gang was operating in the city. After which, the police today arrested Sunny Wehmi, a resident of New Geeta Colony, Kala Sanghian road.
He said the suspect was arrested from Hathi Gate at Sofi village and 270 gm of drug powder, a .32 bore pistol with five live cartridges, a .315 bore pistol with three live cartridges, a Honda City car (bearing registration No. PB09 AE 0090) and drug money worth Rs 1.05 lakh, was recovered from his possession. “Sunny was involved in the drug trade from 2012 and already cases have been registered against him under various provisions of the NDPS Act at Police Division 2 and 7 of the city and Mehta police station in Amritsar district,” the police said.
The CP said the suspect had brought these weapons from Ittawa in Uttar Pradesh and used to keep it with him during the supply of drugs.
He said: “Sunny used to bring drugs from Amritsar and supply the same in the city. During investigation, he revealed that his accomplice Rahul was also having a weapon which he had bought from Uttar Pradesh.”
Later, the police arrested Rahul from Ashok Vihar T-point near Verka milk plant and recovered a pistol from him. Bhullar said Rahul’s mother was also involved in the drug trade and three cases were already registered against her at various police stations.
