Jalandhar, July 11

The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) at a meeting held on Wednesday cleared proposals worth Rs 4 crore pertaining to the development of the city.

Among the major projects cleared was LED light projects worth Rs 65 lakh in the area falling under the Jalandhar (Central) Assembly constituency.

Claiming ambiguity into the cost of LED lights, which were approved for a price of Rs 6,886 per unit, the F&CC members claimed that they were easily available at Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per unit.

Mayor Jagdish Raja said the contractor was given a contract to replace the street lights with LED lights. “Now, he will only install the infrastructure and the lights will be purchased by us. Since he has already been given a contract for Rs 65 lakh, he will increase the number of street light poles in the city.” said Raja.

He said the dog pound project at Nangal Shama village had been put on hold for the time being to remove some technical specifications and a fresh tender would be floated soon.

“The House has approved to remove the clauses pertaining to the EPF, ESI and also their mandatory enlistment with the MC, adding that the three bidders who came to apply for the tender are also not enlisted with the civic body,” the Mayor said.

Other proposals approved at the meeting include purchasing of furniture worth Rs 3.5 lakh for the old renovated building and tree plantation worth Rs 30 lakh for the west, north and central constituencies. A proposal to upgrade the Fire Department infrastructure was also approved by the committee.
