Ludhiana, August 23

A woman and her parents were today booked for abetment to suicide. A 60-year-man, Pawan Bhalla, of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar on Noorwala Road had set himself ablaze at his residence on Saturday. Pawan was rushed to DMC Hospital but he later succumbed to the injuries.

Asha Bhalla, wife of Pawan Bhalla, alleged that his daughter-in-law and her parents were harassing his husband due to which he took the extreme step. She alleged that her daughter-in-law and her parents had humiliated them after which her husband committed suicide. Pawan Bhalla was a former bank employee.

Following her complaint, the police registered an FIR against his daughter-in-law and her parents. The accused have been identified as Ritika Bhalla, her father Rajan Malhotra and mother Santosh Malhotra.

Asha Bhalla said her son had married Ritika about 18 months ago and they have a daughter. She alleged that Ritika had also been harassing and forcing her husband to live in a separate house.

A case under Sections 306 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered against the trio at the Basti Jodhewal police station on Monday.
