Ludhiana, February 1
Mundane life was put out of gear today as the city witnessed light to moderate rainfall in the morning. Residents woke-up to dark clouds and rainfall, which started around 7 am and continued till around 9:30 am. Within a span of two hours, many roads were deluged with water.
Low-lying areas on roads like Maharani Jhansi Road, Deepak Cinema Road, underpath of South City canal, Focal Point, Industrial Area, etc, witnessed waterlogging and it was difficult for the commuters and residents to pass through these stretches.
School and college going students on bicycles and two-wheelers had a tough time on the roads following which the educational institutions witnessed a relatively thinner attendance. Sonali, a student of Khalsa College for Women, was seen holding her footwear in hands while passing through a waterlogged stretch near the college. She said, “It is better to hold my socks and shoes in hands than putting these in the water. On reaching college, I can wear these again.”
The flooded Southern Bypass underpass near the Verka milk plant and Lodhi Club Road underpass at BRS Nagar also saw people finding it hard to manoeuvre.
Apart from the affluent areas, many other areas like Link Road, Gill Road, Ferozepur Road, Hambran Road, National Highway-44, Chandigarh Road, Janakpuri, Panj Peer Road and Transport Nagar also witnessed waterlogging which cleared only in the afternoon. Many commuters on two-wheelers avoided these stretches.
