Ludhiana, March 6
The Vigilance Bureau (VB), Ludhiana, during its ongoing campaign against corruption on Wednesday arrested Zora Singh, posted as field officer, Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), for accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson for the state VB said the suspect was arrested on a complaint lodged by Amit Rai, a resident of Ishar Nagar and a practising lawyer in the district courts here.
He said the complainant approached the VB and stated that the accused had been demanding a bribe of Rs 4,000 to allow him to complete his two under-construction houses with lintel in Shiv Vihar, Jaspal Bangar village, Ludhiana.
He alleged that the official threatened him that he would not allow the lintel work if the bribe money was not paid for both houses. The suspect told him that the money would be shared with other officials of GLADA.
After preliminary investigation of the complaint, a VB team from the Ludhiana range laid a trap and the suspect was arrested red-handed in the presence of two official witnesses while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant. A case under Sections 7 and 7A of Prevention of the Corruption Act was registered at the VB Range police station, Ludhiana. The field officer will be produced in the court tomorrow. Further investigation in the case was under progress and role of other officials of GLADA would also be examined.
