Ludhiana, December 12

The Dugri police have booked a woman for usurping goods, cash and valuables worth over Rs 50 lakh of her husband in connivance with her accomplice.

The suspect has been identified as Jaspal Kaur, a resident of BRS Nagar. She allegedly forged the signature of her husband to withdraw the life insurance policies worth about Rs 15 lakh.

The complainant, Tajinderpal Singh, a resident of Passi Nagar, told the police that he got married to the woman in 2000 and later in 2014, he went abroad. He handed over his entire business to his wife but when he returned India in 2015, he found his wife had usurped his assets worth lakhs.

Since he was not in India, his wife, in connivance with his friend, withdrew the LIC policies registered on his name worth Rs 15 lakh by forging his signature.

The police said Jaspal had forged the signature which was also confirmed by a forensic lab.

Investigation into the case was conducted by the economic offences wing which was later approved by the ADCC Special Branch, and then by the Police Commissioner, Ludhiana, Dr Sukhchain Gill.

The investigating officer, ASI Kapil Kumar, said a case of cheating and forgery had been registered against the woman and further investigation was on.

The woman is yet to be arrested.
