Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 90th edition of "Mann Ki Baat" on Sunday recalled the imposition of National Emergency in June 1975, saying people's democratic rights were crushed during the period but their faith in democracy and constitutional values did not wane.

Addressing the youth, Modi said their parents' rights were snatched away during the Emergency.

He urged people not forget those days when all democratic rights and personal liberties were crushed, including Article 21 of the Constitution which ensures fundamental right to life and personal liberty. Censorship was imposed, under which action was taken by the then regime against Bollywood singer, late Kishore Kumar, Modi said.

The PM recounted India's surge in start-ups, especially in space technology.

Lauding the youth and their progressive and superlative performances in sports, Modi said Indian sportsmen are dominating the firmament.

He talked about the upcoming Chess Olympiad from July 28 in which more than 180 countries, including India, will be taking part.

Modi lauded international women cricketer Mithali Raj, and said she was an inspiration for youth. He wished her well in life.

The PM underlined the growing consciousness in the country on the campaign for from "waste to wealth".

Pitching for protection of environment, he said a team of cyclists in Himachal Pradesh will cover a distance of 175 km from Shimla to Mandi to promote the "Swachhta" campaign.

Modi flagged the coming onset of monsoon, and pitched for conservation of water.
