Sangrur, January 20

Demanding acceptance of their long-pending demands, members of the Punjab Employees and Pensioners Joint Front here today staged a protest against the state government outside the residence of Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj.

They took out a march from near the Government Senior Secondary School for boys towards the residence of the MLA.

The members expressed their resentment against “indifferent attitude” of the state government towards their demands. They alleged that the Chief Minister has been giving step-motherly attitude by not accepting their genuine demands.

The protest was led by leaders of various employees and pensioners’ organisations, including Avinash Sharma, Raj Kumar Arora, Jagdish Sharma, Sukhdev Singh Changaliwala, Mela Singh Punnawal and Jagdev Singh Bahia.

Raj Kumar Arora said their demands include payment the dearness allowance (DA) arrears’ instalments, regularisation of temporary employees’ services, implementation of old pension scheme for the employees recruited since January 1, 2004, and the payment of arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations from January 1, 2016.

The protesters threatened to go against the ruling party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections if the state government fails to accept and implement their demands.
