The Division D police station on Friday nabbed two persons who allegedly extorted Rs 90,000 from a mobile shop owner while posing as cops. A case under Sections 419, 420 and 384 of IPC was registered against them.

They were identified as Prithvi and Yuvraj, both residents of Bharariwal area here. They were produced in the court and brought on police remand. Robin Hans, SHO Division D police station, said the police got a complaint from Ankit, a mobile shop owner and resident of the Batala road area, that two accused had extorted Rs 90,000 from him while posing as cops.

They threatened to lodge an FIR against him for selling stolen mobile phones. He said he got afraid and gave money to him, but the accused demanded Rs 50,000 more. He got suspicious and lodged a police complaint .

Hans said later a trap was laid and when the duo came to take the amount, they were held by the police team.

Meanwhile, the Maqboolpura police booked three persons for extorting money from Gurlal Singh.

One of the suspects, Raju Singh of Umarpura village, was arrested, while his two accomplices Majinder Singh of Kakkar Tarian village and Dilraj Singh of Bhagat Namdev Colony, are still at large.

Gurlal stated that his brother Satnam Singh ran away with a girl from Vallah following which a case was registered against him. He said the police teams raided his house to arrest Satnam Singh a number of times.

He said Majinder Singh approached him and told that the girl’s family was going to register a complaint against them. He alleged that he knew that Dilraj Singh and Raju Singh had influence in the police department and they would not let an FIR register against him. He demanded Rs 50,000 for the same.

He said two months later, they again met them and threatened to get an FIR registered against them. “They pressurised us and forced to cough out Rs 50,000,” Gurlal alleged.
