In an attempt to enforce Food Safety Act, DC Kamaldeep Singh Sangha met hotel owners and wholesale food dealers to issue necessary instructions on Saturday. He asked them to ensure no use of plastic bags, and maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation while preparing and serving food to customers. Besides, the hoteliers were asked to keep a check on their employees to ascertain if they are suffering from any health problem.
“The employees working in the food industry should get themselves checked for Hepatitis C and HIV every six months to ensure that no infection is passed on through food. The regulations under the Food Safety Act should be followed,” he said.
Addressing the meeting, District Helath Officer Lakhbir Singh Bhagowalia said the department had been carrying out a drive to check the kitchen and food supplies of the malls, hotels and eateries for the past few days. “Most of them have been found violating the norms. I will suggest that they pull up their socks and ensure that their kitchen and food items are not adulterated,” he said, adding that violations would invite penalty and punishment.
