Amritsar, December 11

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has decided to involve meritorious students in the process of syllabus amendment of their respective classes.

The GNDU will become the first university of the country to involve students in the matters of deciding their syllabus.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu said, “The syndicate has already accorded its approval to this decision that will benefit the students. The process of amending the syllabus has already been started and will be implemented from the next academic session.”

Earlier, the syllabus amendment was restricted to the heads of the departments and subject experts which used to result in unnecessary complication, he said. “Now, before the meeting of the board of studies, a meeting with meritorious students will also be conducted to take their views,” he said.

The decision has already been hailed by academicians, institutions and employers of various organisations. Similarly, to encourage and promote quality research, the syndicate has also given its approval to the decision in which PhD scholars from any corner of the country can appear before the panel of subject experts, instead of limiting it to subject experts of the region.

Meanwhile students too have hailed the move of the university.
