‘Aadhe Adhure’ brings alive bitterness of married life

Artistes brilliantly portrayed the changing dynamics of a married life in contemporary times in a play, ‘Aadhe Adhure’, staged at Balwant Gargi Theatre, Rose Garden, on the 10th day of National Natyam theatre Festival on Saturday evening.

The play depicts that a man is incomplete without a woman and she is the one who makes a man. The story revolves around the life of a man from middle class, Mahinder, who lives with his wife and three children. Mahinder works at different places but fails on every front. Finally, he decides to sit at home. His wife works in an office and she thinks that her husband is of no use.

As a result, both share a bitter relation. Later, the couple’s world came apart when their daughter elopes with her lover. But after marriage when she could not adjust with her husband, she came back home. Mahinder’s son is unemployed and looks for a job. His mother tries to adjust him in a job but fails.

Mahinder suspects that his wife has an extra-marital affair with a man in her office. She goes on changing relationship from one man to another but ultimately ended up with Mahinder only.

From her exploration of life, she learns that all men are same even though they put up different masks and they have same faces.

Artistes from Collegiate Drama Society from Delhi quite vividly brought alive the bitterness of married life in contemporary times. The audience could relate to many scenes during the play and reciprocated the same with a resounding applause several times in between. It also portrayed that how changing dynamics of married relationships took its toll on children who also end-up living a life full of conflict and chaos.

Written by renowned playwright Mohan Rakesh, the two-hour play was directed by Ravi Taneja. It received an overwhelming response.

MC Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Gill and actress Pawan Johal were the chief guests on the occasion.
