23-yr-old youth drowns in Sirhind canal

BATHINDA: A youth was drowned while taking a bath in the Sirhind Canal near Papiha marriage palace on the Joganand road here on Monday.

A youth was drowned while taking a bath in the Sirhind Canal near Papiha marriage palace on the Joganand road here on Monday.

After getting the information, local NGO Sahara Jansewa’s life-saving team members Sandeep Gill and Gautam reached the spot. With the help of local residents, they fished out the youth and rushed him to the Civil Hospital where he died after sometime.

The deceased has been identified as Narinder Sanini (23), a resident of Bibiwala. He is survived by parents and two sisters.

While his father is an employee of the Irrigation Department, the victim was also working in the Irrigation Department on a temporary basis.

This afternoon, he had gone to the canal to take a bath. The reason behind his drowning has not been ascertained yet. After the incident, the police reached the spot. The body has been kept in the mortuary for a postmortem.
