Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital is all set to relieve 11 of its 23 outsourced employees working in various departments.

As per the plan, the authorities concerned are going to relieve two electricians, six lab technicians, two security guards and a carpenter.

The Manimajra-based outsourcing company has already issued termination notices of these employees.

In the notices, the company has mentioned that the employees will not be allowed to come to office after March 1.

The move has come as a shock for the outsourced employees working here for the past several years.

An outsourced employee, who did not wish to be named, said, “We have given our peak time to this institution and suddenly, we are sacked without any valid reason. We are clueless what to do now.”

When contacted, Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Sukhjinder Singh Gill confirmed that they have decided to relieve 11 outsourced employees.

Senior Medical Officer Sukhjinder Singh Gill said they also felt bad about it but they didn’t have any other option in view of the fund crunch.

Senior Medical Officer Sukhjinder Singh Gill admitted that the services would be hit once these employees were relieved. “If the government releases adequate funds then we will again hire them,” he added.

On the other hand, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr SS Romana said, “Relieving the outsourced employees is not the solution to the problem. Besides, it will add more problems as the medical services will be hugely affected by this.”

Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr SS Romana added that in the forthcoming meeting with the secretary of the State Health Department, he will raise the issue of fund crunch with the authorities.
