CPF employees sit on indefinite dharna in city

BATHINDA: Members of the CPF Employees’ Union sat on an indefinite dharna at Children’s Park here on Friday.

Bathinda, February 22

Members of the CPF Employees’ Union sat on an indefinite dharna at Children’s Park here on Friday. They were demanding the revival of the new pension scheme. Employees from different government departments gathered at the park and raised slogans against the government for allegedly not fulfilling their demands.

Amrik Singh, executive member of the union, said, “Our indefinite dharna will continue until government relent and fulfil our genuine demands. The government must provide benefits under new pension scheme (NPS) which was implemented in January 2004. The state government had discontinued the old scheme of the GPF for the employees who were recruited after this date and introduced the new CPF scheme but later benefits under this scheme were not given.”

The members of union said if the state government did not resolve the joint demand of all Punjab employees, then they would intensify their protest in the coming days. — TNS
