City girls to face Jalandhar in senior inter-dist cricket meet

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh defeated Patiala by 11 runs to set up the title clash with Jalandhar in the Punjab Inter-District Senior Women Cricket Championship at Arya Bhatta College Ground, Barnala, on Sunday.

Chandigarh defeated Patiala by 11 runs to set up the title clash with Jalandhar in the Punjab Inter-District Senior Women Cricket Championship at Arya Bhatta College Ground, Barnala, on Sunday.

Batting first, the Chandigarh girls posted 156/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Openers Ridhima (14) and Divya (2) were out early on. Sunaina and Manisha put on a 45-run partnership for the third wicket. Priya broke the partnership by scalping Sunaina (20) and then Manisha (28) to reduce Chandigarh for 73/4 in 28.1 overs.

Amanjot Kaur and Monika Pandey came up with a 79-run partnership before Amanjot was run-out by Priya for 47. The Chandigarh side lost two quick wickets -- Monika Pandey (29) and Shivangi (0) -- and were bundled out for 156/7 in 50 overs. Manpreet Kaur bagged three wickets, while Mannat bagged two and Priya got one wicket.

In reply, Patiala lost their openers with just seven runs on board. Nidhi and Shabnam Gandhi added 31 runs for the third wicket but Gandhi was trapped in front by Amanjot for four runs. 

Anjali and Nidhi then added 22 runs for the fourth wicket before Anjali was caught by Rajni in the covers off Amanjot for 13 runs. Nidhi was trapped in front by Manish for 31 off 87 balls, with five boundaries.

Thereafter, Babita scored 40 runs and Patiala were bowled out for 145 in 48.1 overs. Amanjot Kaur took three wickets, while Diksha Dogra, Priyanka Guleria, Rajani, Manisha, Shibi and Sunaina took one wicket each.

Jalandhar beat Ludhiana by 103 runs 

At Government College Ground Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar defeated Ludhiana by 103 runs to enter the final.  Batting first, Jalandhar scored 197 runs in 49.3 overs. Srishiti (58) and Nikita Thakur (42) were the main run-scorers for the side. Babaljeet Kaur (3/21), Palwinderjeet Kaur (3/35) and Ruchi Kapoor (3/32) took three wickets each. In reply, Ludhiana were bundled out for 94 runs in 31.4 overs.  Mandeep Kaur (17) and Neha Khan (15) were the main scorers for the side. Neetu Singh (3/16) and Neha (3/19) were the main wicket-takers.

The two-day final will be played at Government College Ground, Hoshiarpur, from June 26.
