Cop assaulted by 4 youths

Chandigarh, November 16

A constable of the UT police was allegedly assaulted by a few youths last night near the Hallo Majra light point. The victim suffered nine stitches on the head and a fracture in one of the hands.

The victim was returning home after duty when the incident took place.

The victim has been identified as Pankaj Kumar, who is posted at the Mauli Jagran police station. Sources said four youths attacked the victim with a brick on his head after which three of them fled from the spot while the fourth one was caught by the victim. The three miscreants then returned and attacked the victim again to get their accomplice released.

All accused then managed to flee from the spot. The injured constable was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.

A case under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 186 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. 

Police sources said two accused in the case had been identified and raids were being conducted to nab them. — TNS
