Cop, dhaba owner held

The special investigation team (SIT) of the police tonight arrested Head Constable Sunil Kumar, posted as a reader in the Sector 10 chowki, and dhaba owner Ravi Tiwari in the case pertaining to an assualt on advocates at the eatery on the intervening night of April 20 and 21.

The arrests were made after the Punjab and Haryana High Court took suo motu cognisance of the case and sought an action-taken report from the SIT, headed by DCP Kamal Deep Goyal. Earlier, the police had arrested Vijay, Suraj and a juvenile in the case.

The prime suspect, Davinder Sharma, is still at large. The Sector 5 police had registered a case against the suspects under Sections 148, 149, 323, 379-B and 506 of the IPC. Later, the police had added Section 307 against Ravi Tiwari and Davinder Sharma. — TNS
