Chandigarh, April 16

In order to increase the voting percentage, the Election Department has sought the help of the resident welfare associations (RWAs).

A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Mandip Singh Brar, with representatives of resident welfare associations to discuss activities that could be initiated under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.

The meeting was aimed at making sure that every person who is eligible to vote registers as a voter before April 19.

Ideas shared by the members for maximising voter participation included organising electoral awareness camps, demonstrating the working of EVMs and VVPATs, display of election-related promotional material in societies and reaching out to the residents of all their associations through various ways.

Under the SVEEP programme, several meetings have been held with banking institutions, medical fraternity, IT companies, hospitality industry and educational institutions to discuss possibilities through which they can create electoral awareness among people.
