Man shot at over rivalry

A group of five persons allegedly attacked a local resident and opened fire at him here last evening. The victim was admitted to a hospital here.

The police have booked the suspects on charge of attempt to murder. They have registered a case against the suspects under Sections 307, 323, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act.

The suspects have been identified as Inder Singh, Harpreet Singh, Adeshwar Singh, Rishu and one unidentified man. The police said the complainant alleged that the suspects had an old rivalry with him. He said the suspects attacked him while he was alone. He told the police that he tried to escape, but they opened fire at him following which a bullet hit his thigh.

The police said the suspects were yet to be nabbed. The hunt was on to arrest them.

The Station House Officer of the Kotwali police station said: “The complainant and the suspects did not have any case registered against each other. It was a case of an old rivalry between them. The complainant is undergoing treatment at Government Rajindra Hospital. His condition is stated to be out of danger as the bullet hit his thigh.”
