Nigerian held with 265-gm heroin

The Special Task Force (STF), Mohali, arrested a Nigerian national and recovered 265 grams of heroin from his possession.

The accused, identified as Daniel Fedrick, who currently lives in Uttam Nagar, New Delhi, was arrested from the YPS Chowk, Mohali.

STF Superintendent of Police Rajinder Singh Sohal said the accused was carrying heroin to sell it to his regular customers in Mohali and Chandigarh. He was nabbed by the STF team following a tip-off.

“Daniel came to India on a business visa. First, he started dealing in clothes and cosmetics. Later, he indulged in drug trade,” said the SP. Rajinder Singh Sohal said his visa had expired in 2015. Now, he was staying in India illegally.

Daniel belonged to a family of carpenters back in his country.

“Investigations are on to get information about his source of drugs and his clientele here to break the drug chain,” said Sohal.

A case under Sections 21, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act and Section 14 of the Foreign Act was registered at the STF police station at Phase 4 here on Saturday. The accused was produced before a local court, which sent him to judicial custody. — TNS
