Secretary Tourism, Floriculture, Farooq A Shah today said around 2.2 lakh tourists had visited the Ladakh region this year.
“From January this year, around 2.20 lakh tourists have visited the Ladakh region till August-end. Only 1.46 lakh tourists had visited Ladakh by August-end in 2015,” Shah said while speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Leh festival.
An official statement said Shah extensively visited Leh and Kargil to take stock of the ongoing development works in the tourism sector. He was briefed about the status of projects in the tourism sector and also updated on the potential of the Ladakh region in adventure tourism, Buddhist circuits and monastic tourism circuit.
The Secretary promised the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the tourism development authorities of Leh, Kargil and Zanskar that the tourism potential of the said regions would be utilised to the fullest and be promoted at the national and international levels.
Shah urged the CEOs and other Tourism Department officials to work hard and complete the various tourism projects on time to realise the dream of late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to make the state of Jammu and Kashmir one of the best tourist destinations in the world.
