The state Congress has demanded immediate removal of KD Chaudhri, who was initially appointed CMD of Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd for a year on June 3, 2010.
PPCC vice-president and spokesman Sunil Jakhar said before the expiry of one year, Chaudhri was given extension for another three years or 62 years of age, whichever was earlier. A day before he turned 62 on February 8, 2014, the age of retirement of CMD was increased from 62 to 65 years and he was given another one-year extension. After the expiry of one year, i.e. February 8, 2015, he was allowed to continue till further orders without any term. This term was to end on February 2, 2017, when he attains the age of 65 years. However, as this date was falling during the period of election code, the government increased the age of retirement of the CMD to 67 years on December 20, 2016, only to let Chaudhri continue in office. “Hence Chaudhri has been paying back to the Akali Dal,” he alleged.
AAP complains to EC
Chandigarh: The AAP has demanded the Election Commission to debar KD Chaudhri, CMD of the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd, from working during the duration of the election code of conduct because “he is working like an extension of the ruling Akali Dal by doling out reckless favours in the constituencies of top Akali leaders like Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia”.
Chander Suta Dogra, spokesperson for AAP, said, “Chaudhri is also probably the only government official in the entire country whose retirement age has been extended up to the age of 67 years on December 20. His extension is aimed at helping the Akali Dal candidates during the election campaign because he has posted friendly PSPCL officials in key areas as part of the Akali Dal's election strategy.”
