Dengue stings hard, 61 fresh cases confirmed in Mohali

CHANDIGARH: The dengue crisis in the tricity has deepened further with 61 fresh cases being confirmed today from Mohali alone, taking the total number to 182 in the town.

The dengue crisis in the tricity has deepened further with 61 fresh cases being confirmed today from Mohali alone, taking the total number to 182 in the town. With this, the total number of confirmed dengue cases in Mohali district has gone up to 326.

Chandigarh, too, has reported a steep rise in the number of dengue cases with six cases being confirmed today, taking the total count of confirmed cases diagnosed in city health centres to 436, of whom 112 patients have been found to be residents of Chandigarh. Meanwhile, Panchkula today reported four fresh cases of dengue, taking the tally to 53.

Till now, Chandigarh has reported four chikungunya cases while the count of confirmed cases in Panchkula is three. The malaria wing of the UT Health Department has geared up its field activities for the prevention and control of dengue. According to health officials, the major source of breeding has been found to be coolers and in-house containers. To further strengthen the preventive activities, daily fumigation is being carried out along with strengthening of field activities, which includes mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers and tyres. So far, 30 challans and 50 show-cause notices have been issued.

Free dengue-testing facility is available at the Department of Virology, PGI, Chandigarh; the Department of Microbiology, GMCH-32, GMSH-16 and District Priority Lab (IDSP) at the Civil Hospital, Mani Majra.
