Former Chief Minister and Pauri Garhwal MP BC Khanduri has stressed the need for the appointment of a Lokayukta and the implementation of the Transfer Act in the state.

Khanduri, after a visit of his parliamentary constituency, met Chief Minister Harish Rawat here last evening. The former Chief Minister was of the view that if the Uttarakhand Government had appointed a Lokayukta and implemented the Transfer Act, the large-scale corruption and problems of appointing teachers, doctors and other employees in the hilly areas of the state would have been solved.

It was during Khanduri’s regime that the Lokayukta Bill was passed by the state government. However, with the Congress government coming to power in the state in 2012, the issue was been put on the back burner.

Khanduri had also brought in a Transfer Act to remove the anomalies in the transfer of government employees and shortage of teachers and doctors in hilly areas.

He said since the President had also given assent to the Lokayukta Bill passed by his government, there was no reason for the state Congress government to sit on it.

Schools and hospitals in the state were without teachers, doctors and other essential staff in the absence of any proper Transfer policy.

The state government had also been slow on the issue of opening a Sainik School at Rudraprayag, Khanduri alleged.
