Dehradun, December 3

Demanding an immediate action into the ‘house tax exemption’ issue pertaining to the ex-servicemen, the Dehradun Ex-Services League said it had caused widespread confusion among the ex-servicemen fraternity in the district.

In a press release issued here, Brig KG Behl (retd), president of the league, said a number of complaints had been made by the ex-servicemen about the house tax where house tax bills had been received, despite exemptions allowed by the state government.

“It was learnt that soldiers and sailors board have sent a list of ex-servicemen to the Nagar Nigam office. If the name of the individuals to whom the bills have been sent falls in the list, they should bring their bill and will be exempted from payment on verification by the team of Nagar Nigam,” he said, adding that if the name was not in the list, ex-servicemen must get them registered in the office of Soldiers and Sailors Board and get necessary identification card.

“The Nagar Nigam team will verify and allow the exemption. It is limited to those houses which falls within the jurisdiction of Nagar Nigam and where house tax is being paid,” he said.

“It is also learnt that the tax will be paid by the state government through the Zila Sainik Kalyan and Punarvas Board by transfer entry to Nagar Nigam for which they will sent the figures. Those ex-servicemen whose names are already registered with the Soldiers and Sailors Board can take their bills to the Nagar Nigam to settle the cases,” he said.

Some ex-servicemen have directly sent their application to Nagar Nigam for house tax exemption, but unless their names are found in the list receipt from the Soldiers and Sailors Board and they fall within the jurisdiction of Nagar Nigam, no action was likely to be taken by the Nagar Nigam, the veteran soldier said.
