Mussoorie, November 25

A student musical group from Mussoorie International School stirred the heart strings by singing popular Bollywood numbers during the Winterline Carnival curtain raiser function held in Mussoorie today.

A cleanliness programme that began in the town on November 21 also came to an end with Garhwali and Jaunpuri performances by members of the Jaunpur Lok Manch, Tibetan Homes and Saraswati Shishu Mandir School students.

State general secretary of the Congress and Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s son Anand Rawat inaugurated the state’s traditional games, such as Bagh Bakri (a form of Chinese checker) etc, on the occasion.

Anand Rawat, addressing the gathering, said traditional games should be promoted so that the youth stayed focused and away from the menace of drugs.

Efforts were on to introduce these traditional games in the national games to be held in 2018. Once the games gain popularity, efforts would be made to form an association so that these were taken to the international level. The games would be introduced in the Winterline Carnival to promote them among the tourists, Anand Rawat added.

In a friendly Bagh Bakri match played between Mussoorie SDM Swati Bhadauria and state Tourism Promotion and Culture Conservation Committee president Jot Singh Gunsola, Bhadauria defeated the latter by a handsome margin.

Bhadauria thanked people for participating in various programmes conducted in the past few days. She also appealed to people to support the Winterline Carnival, scheduled to start from December 25.

Sandeep Sahni, president of the Tourism Promotion and Culture Conservation Committee Ceremony Board; Manmohan Singh Mall, Municipal Council president, and others attended the curtain raiser function.
