In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Panchkula police is all set to upload all hotspots (in red colour) where several women have fallen victim to eve-teasing, molestation or rape in the last five years, on a special website meant only for women. Also, the photographs of habitual rape and molestation offenders will be uploaded on the website.

Commissioner of Police OP Singh said that the aim was just to alert womenfolk. “We are undertaking hotspot analysis of crime against women to identify vulnerable locations and upload it on the map on the website. The idea is to help women know where they need to be more alert and how to react and who to reach out to, when in trouble.”

“A special link of sexual offenders register in which photographs of rape and molestation offenders out of jail will be uploaded asking women to be careful of them,” added the Commissioner. The initiative is part of the preparation being done for the first women police station that will be inaugurated on Raksha Bandhan.

Apart from the hotspots that will be uploaded on the website by the police this week, several videos and updates of self defence and safety tips will also be uploaded for them.

“A few rapes should not deter women from going out. The website will be a sort of virtual police station that they can connect to any time and from anywhere and our policewomen will respond,” said the officer.
